New York City state Senator Eric Adams wants to stop the sag. Senator Adams created a video trying to educate the young black population in regards to the historic aspect of pants sagging. Sagging pants stemmed from a prison culture based on the fact that prisoners were prohibited from having belts because said belt could be used as a weapon. Therefore when people sag they are creating a negative connotation in societies mind. Senator Adams could have used his platform for more pressing issues, the economy, and joblessness. So, why jump on the Gen. Larry Platt bandwagon? It may be that some of his constituents complained about this issue. Nevertheless, it’s a stigma predominately linked to minorities in particular African Americans. This fashion trend need to die out expeditiously, anything that negatively stigmatizes a whole culture should not be portrayed so vigorously.
