Prisons
Prison's are for people that are convicted of having done something bad and while we often here of prison abuse, inmate to inmate, nothing seems to change. To me, this is a national scandal. The thought of being brutalized, sexually abused day after day, contracting AIDs, etc, etc, etc. is a living hell. I would rather die. If i am wrong about the extent of what I perceive as a living hell, please tell me. Better yet, tell me what is being done to change the situation. I guess prison reform is not a vote getter so that explains why not many politicians take on this issue: and oh yes, it costs money to change.

I agree with this. I've read a lot of writing by prisoners during my internship with PEN American Center's prison writing program, and some of the stories focused on the poor quality of treatment in the prisons. Needless to say, some of them were heartbreaking.
