John Hughes Movies

I just saw a several year old documentary in which film students were on a mission to interview the late John Hughes, director of 6 teen movies from the 80's.
On their quest, the students interviewed many high school students who had seen all or most of the Hughes movies, along with several of the actors who starred in them.
If you think you are unfamiliar with Hughes, you are not. He made The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller, Weird Science, & Some Kind of Wonderful.
The high school students interviewed loved these movies as they said Hughes depicted high school students as they really are & not as some beautiful, skinny, buff, perfect beings who do not exist in their world. The kids said they could not identify with characters in movies today (which is why movies like LOTR, Spiderman, Shrek are so popular). The actors themselves said that if they were trying to get a part in a movie today, they most likely would have no careers at all as they were too average looking.
Hughes' movies were panned by critics and he eventually became disillusioned by Hollywood's standards & retired, yet some of his films hold the test of time & are still relevant today. Hughes also kept his young actors out of the Hollywood scene & did his filming mainly in Chicago.
The Breakfast Club is perfect example of how a movie can really have no plot, but still be successful just as character study. I personally love Some Kind of Wonderful. Do you have a favorite?

Watch The Breakfast Club. The others are good as far as teen flicks go & very typical, but I don't much like Weird Science. John Hughes is the one who launched some of the Brat Packers careers like Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and my all time favorite, Anthony Michael Hall (he played Rusty in the early Vacations).
