Is it wrong to screen for beauty?

One dating website, beautifulpeople.net, requires that people apply and get voted on in order to be a member of the dating community.
That means: nobody who is "fat" or "ugly."
While I can't deny that such communities have a right to exist, it irks me that beauitful people are always categorized in the same way.
Beauty is diverse and cultural. Different regions in different time periods have valued differed types of beauty- individuals are attracted to different people. To dumb it down to 'only THESE people are beautiful' is flawed because, let's face it, we all have our own standards and opinions.
To put it into context- I don't find guys with muscles particularly attractive (contradictory to the website), and if these people are in such high demand, why do they need to subscribe to a dating website?
So, my question remains. Is it wrong to screen people based on beauty? And would you ever participate in a community like this one?

While people deserve the

While people deserve the right to pick the physical and emotional characteristics they want in the person they're dating, a website shouldn't categorize people and only accept the "beautfiul" people. Things like that make people have low self-esteem and worth. The website can do as they want, especially if they're charging people, but the people running it should think about how their actions will affect people.

No it's not!

You know beauty is meant to signify healthyness and everyone wants a healthy partner so they could live longer happier lives. Would it be so wrong if there was website that matched healthy partners together? Although you may not be attracted to mucsular guys, muscular guys tend to be healthier because they work out and eat properly to obtain those muscles. All the hard work in the gym not only contributes to looks but healthy system as well. In the US beauty is power and its better to accept that then to just complain about how wrong it is.

I didnt mean beauty was power in the sense of you get to run the country. I meant as in a pretty girl gets drinks bought for her at the club, two people who are both qualified for a job and have equal personalities. say one looks better they might get the job because of it. as a journalist, i might be able to get a story that someone else wouldnt if i were pretty enough that the person giving me the story like me.

If beauty was power we'd see Brad & Angelina running our country, or Paris Hilton for that matter. Instead we have a president whose ears are a bit large and a Secretary of State sporting a 'few extra pounds'. I think you are confusing fit with beauty-2 totally different things. And no one said there was anything wrong with such a dating website. It's just another example of a club that sets out to pick & choose, much like having that all Caucasion country club.
The trouble is that MOST people aren't so great looking. It doesn't mean we are unfit. I'd much rather be judges by the content of my character than the size of fixed nose, my six pack abs, or my hair extensions!

I would not participate-not

I would not participate-not that they'd take me. I am surprised that these so called 'beautiful people' even NEED such a site. I would think that they'd be snapped up immediately just by leaving the house to collect their mail. But I suppose that by joining such a site, the beauties will no longer have to deal with the rest of us and it makes it easier on them. LOL.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Great people come in all shapes and sizes. It's sad that these people think differently, but I suppose they are entitled to find their perfect mate as much as anyone.
