How to get started...

Key Site Features

If you've never heard some of the terms used on this site that's because we made them up. We did so partially for fun but mostly because your experience on canisaysomething.com is unique and different from other sites and we think the lingo and look should be too. But don't worry it's not all new and improved we've incorporated some tried and true features into the site to.

back this user - when you become a backer to another user you will receive notifications when they post new content. This feature is to help you connect with those people you find interesting and be the first to know when they 'say something'. You have the option to back any user without their permission. When reading a bloid, comment, reply or survey you will find this feature located near their profile picture, just click it and you become their backer!

request private access - you have the option to request private access to their profile at the time you elect to become their backer. If granted permission, having Private access will allow you to view any information that they have kept private on their profile page. This may include info like their real name, city and state they live in, their 'about' statement, the list of groups they back and any photos or videos.

back this group - when you become a backer to a group you will receive notifications when new content is posted to the group page. This feature is to help you connect with groups and people you find interesting and share a common interest. You have the option to back any group. When you are on the group page you will find this feature located on the right hand side of the page, just click it and you become a backer of the group! A list of the groups that you back is located on your profile page, click these links to go directly to that group page to start talking or reading.

post to ticker - every group page has a ticker running across the top and anyone can post a short message! It's a fast fun way to make a comment or announcement. The feature is located on the right side of every group page, just click it and start typing your message.

RSS feed - RSS stands for 'Real Simple Syndication'. Every category page and group page gives you the option to receive a RSS feed of new content as it happens. This feature is located on the right hand side of the page, just click it and sign up for the RSS feed.

send a message - send messages to other users within canisaysomething.com. When clicking on the send a message button you will enter the username of the person you want to send the message to. When the recipient receives your message it will show your username as the 'sender' and will arrive in their messages inbox on their profile page. No 3rd party email account is needed to send a message.

invite friends - use this feature, located on all pages on the right hand side, to invite your friends to join canisaysomething.com!

anonymous post - Anytime you post content on canisaysomething you have the option to be anonymous. Just check the 'Post Anonymously' box before saving your bloid, survey, comment or reply. When you post anonymously your username and profile picture will not be associated and your identity will remain unavailable. Anonymous posts will also not appear on your profile page to anyone other than you.

post a bloid - A bloid is your note worthy viewpoint, opinion or thought on a topic. Post your bloid to any talk category or group. Bloids can be up to 3000 characters and can feature images or videos that support or help illustrate what you are saying.

post a survey - poll the canisaysomething online community and opt to email your survey to nonmembers as well. It's pretty straight forward, if you have a question and want to get others opinions - post a survey. When you post a survey you will be able to see who has voted and put your results into context (you will not be able to see what their vote was). You will also see total number of votes, the running poll percentages and any comments on your survey. Post your own comment or reply to the voters if you'd like. .

find or add a group - in the talk business, talk school, talk health, and talk sports categories you have the option to find a specific group by clicking the find button located at the top of the page. A pop-up will appear asking you to type in the name of the business, school, health provider or sports team you are looking for. If the group does not have a page on canisaysomething.com you can add it by fillng out some basic info like the group type, name and address, then click the add button.

pick a topic - in the talk green, talk life and talk to the government categories you have the option to select a specific group by topic, using the 'pick a topic' drop down located at the top of the page. Unlike the other categories where the groups are based on actual businesses, schools, health providers and sports teams, the groups in these categories are based on topics that are selected by canisaysomething. Would you like to see a new topic added to talk green, talk life or talk to the government? email newtopic@canisaysomething.com

search - search the entire site with one click! Enter the keyword or phrase, group name or usernames. After your initial search you can refine your search on the results page, or change your keyword / phrase and do a new search. Choose to filter your results by date range, content type, (e.g. only look at survey results or look at users). Narrow down your results by geographic origin of the content, group or user.

read and post to other countries - canisaysomething.com is a global online community. When you have something to say, you can say it to the world or select up to five countries using the drop down in the upper right corner of the page. Or you can select a country from the post a bloid / post a survey pop-up at the time you create your post. You can also filter what you read on the site by country, using the dropdown located in the uper right corner of the page. If you would like to veiw all content posted just click the globe icon at the end of the welcome statement and this will reset your view back to 'the world'.

posting flag - Your 'posting flag' represents your IP address (your computers' address). We've included this feature to give more context to what someone is saying. If you know where someone is in the world, at the time they are sharing what they have to say, it may effect the meaning you take from it. All bloids, surveys, comments and replies are tagged with an IP posting flag.

profile flag - Your profile flag represents the country you selected when you joined canisaysomething.com. You can change this in your account info at any time. To learn more about your profile go to the 'How to get started' section on this page and view more info for 'Create your Public and Private profile'
