Homelessness Is NOT A Crime

By GARY BAUMGARTEN
Paltalk News Network

If you're homeless you - by definition - have no home. But whatever you do, don't camp out on public land. Because if you do - you'll face arrest.

Of course, you can't camp out on private land either - because you'll face arrest for trespassing.

In Camden, New Jersey, homeless people have been encamped between a highway and railroad tracks for months. But now, they have until tomorrow to move out. Or the county may come and clear them away.

This is not the first time this has happened to homeless people in the United States. A country where - not only are you ostracized if  you're homeless, you face arrest for simply existing.

You can't rest on private property. And you can't rest on public land.

Many of the homeless in Camden's tent city say they will not leave if ordered tomorrow. Setting the stage for a possible confrontation with authorities. And the prospect of their being arrested.

I guess I was wrong. I guess homelessness is a crime after all.

The government sent all our

The government sent all our jobs overseas and are slowly exterminating small businesses; people who previously worked at these jobs have now lost their homes and have no place to go. Isn't there a lot of room in the White House? I think it's high time for government officials to get arrested and spend some time in jail for the way they are treating the very people who elected them to their cushy status.

Homeless should be helped, not arrested.

People should not be legally punished if they are homeless, especially in this economy. People are going through rough times finacially, and can't make ends meet. If someone has the misfortune of losing his/her home, they should be helped, not arrested. Yes, some resist help, because they don't want handouts, or they don't want to go to shelters. But if they don't want to, or can't, go to a shelter for whatever reason, the government should be finding another way to help them.
