"But he started it..."
In regards to the recent oil spill tragedy, it seems there is more concern in relation to who should be blamed and what ‘punishment’ BP, and the President of BP, should receive, rather than what really matters: finding a solution to this self-imposed tragedy.
While BP is getting hammered and angry journalists write critically of the company in almost every newspaper, it is not fully the fault of the company. It seems foolish to believe that they are the only company involved in faulty and dangerous practices that do not consistently make environmentally conscious choices. The goal of a company is to make a profit, and this goal has created a countless number of problems.
Moral responsibility and business have been segregated long ago, and this seems to cause problems and dissatisfaction on every corner. Instead of focusing on how much the company should be sued and in deciding if it’s the American contractor’s fault or the executives of British Petroleum’s fault, finding a solution should be the main focus. Perhaps if we exercised our brainpower more toward discovering a solution to this crisis rather than accusing others and displacing blame, a solution would already have been found.
