Freegan Events - January 2010 - NY

If you come to an event & can’t find us, call Janet: (347) 724-6954
www.freegan.info

January 4 • Freegan Meeting and Trash Tour
Join us for an organizational meeting to report on working group activities and discuss and decide on policies and activities. Meetings are for freegan.info volunteers and people interested in volunteering, and are not educational presentations or introductory discussions about freeganism. After, we will explore the area’s wasted food and other goods.
Meet at 7:30pm at the Whole Foods on Houston and Christie in Manhattan, in the upstairs seating area. To come just for the tour, meet us outside the store at 9:30 (on the southwest corner of Houston and Christie).

January 18 • Freegan Meeting and Trash Trailblaze
Join us for an organizational meeting to report on working group activities and discuss and decide on policies and activities. Meetings are for freegan.info volunteers and people interested in volunteering, and are not educational presentations or introductory discussions about freeganism. After, we will explore the area’s wasted food and other goods. This tour is of a new area to us, and is for foragers interested in helping explore an area we are less familiar with to add to our list of locations to recommend to others.
Meet at 7:30pm in the upstairs seating area of Village 38 at 8th Ave. and 38th St. in Manhattan. To come for the tour, meet at 9:30pm outside the store.

January 22 • Trash Tour
Join us to collect the quality products that stores throw out. We give advice on how to salvage these goods & comment on the reasons for such waste. We'll also be collecting food for our freegan feast.
Meet at 9pm at the northwest corner of 38th St. and 3rd Ave. in Manhattan.

January 23 • Freegan Feast
A FREE and mostly vegan community meal made with love from the discards of our wasteful society. We share meal planning, cooking, and other food prep skills, tell stories and jokes, meet new people and reconnect with old friends, and generally unplug from the current world order as we build community. Check back for the location, most likely in an outer boro apartment with decent subway access. RSVP (at least a day ahead) to Janet at (347) 724-6954. Meet at 5pm to help cook and around 8pm to help eat!

January 31 • Really Really Free Market
The Really Really Free Market is a bazaar & celebration, where we discard capitalist notions of interaction and have fun trying new models of exchange. Expect and share free food, skills, clothing, books and fun! For more information, contact getyourfreeon@gmail.com . If you'd like to help freegan.info and others gather and prepare food, contact ask@freegan.info
When and Where? 3-7pm at Judson Memorial Church at 55 Washington Square South. They won't be letting folks in early, unless you are signed up ahead of time to volunteer - so either show up at or after 3pm, or contact them at getyourfreeon@gmail.com to sign up to help set up!

I wish I could attend these events!

In Chicago, we have really really free markets (they used to be every Saturday at Rumble Arts in Humbolt Park, but I'm not sure if they still do that) and they're really awesome. Food not bombs usually brought food for the markets too, and sometimes there was music or some type or performance. It's so awesome to have spaces and events like these all over the country!
