Evaluations
After every quarter we have to give our professors evaluations. This is supposed to be a way for the University to get feedback on the people they hire.
One of my professors said that students actually have a lot of power over teachers' jobs. Given the whole denial of tenure to a well-like DePaul professor, however, I personally doubt student power. Even though she had excellent reviews and students protested, the University did nothing. I can't help but think this is a huge mistake on their part.
I'm wondering how other students feel about evaluations. Do you think the university pays attention, fires teachers that do very poorly and keeps teachers that do really well?

Nope-they don't heed them!
I, too, have filled out my share of these so called evaluations & have been brutally honest each time. The professors always say that the students have power, but I have always had my doubts. Case in point-I once had a TERRIBLE professor whom I heard was bashed term after term & is STILL teaching to this day. Apparently he had tenure & was unable to be let go despite the fact that no one liked him or learned anything from him. However, in the mere chance that you can make a difference, I would still voice my opinions. You never know when your eval may be the one that breaks the camel's back.
