I'm your average middle class citizen who is (thankfully) still employed. 5 years ago I spent a lot of money on anything I wanted. I'd still be spending today if the worth of my home had not decreased by $50K & my 20-something kids could actually find jobs that could support them. they are not alone by any means. I know many of my kids' friends also cannot find decent paying jobs that provide necessities like health insurance. Without this segment of the population in the workforce, we are only fooling ourselves into thinking the economy is improving. The 20's are a time when these people should be moving out of their parents' homes, possibly buying their own. Many would be starting families, but can't because they just don't have jobs. So, the Gallup poll can say whatever it wants-the truth is here in Illinois, employment is a reality only for the politicians and their families. The rest of us are barely staying afloat taking what we can to do so. Can we think ourselves into a depression? Probably some truth to that. But facts are facts. There are NO jobs out there, just internships. There is no end in sight to real estate foreclosure debacle that is causing home prices around here to continue to decline. People in my community are scared & rightfully should be.
