The crazies go hacking
Technology has made words like tweets, bloggers and sexting (a media term) an everyday lexicon. Technology is the thing we swore we could never live with even though thirty years ago society was doing that same thing. If you have been around any teen you will see that it is not too hard to hack into moms’ computer.
However, that is mom and not Government agencies, Defense contractors and all the other organizations linked to the United States department of Defense. The hackers’ goal is simple, gain administrator-level access in order to steal military secrets.
Steven Shirley, an executive director for the pentagon’s forensic focused cyber crime center found that 116 government agencies, contractors, think tanks and universities with connection to the U.S military has been hacked into. 14 of these cases, hackers gained complete administrator-level access to the victims’ network.
Hacking is not a new age phenomena set forth by the “computer generation.” Therefore, shouldn’t government agencies do more to guarantee that these things do not happen. Inform workers, many people may not believe that this is a high number but when we are talking about getting military secrets, I am concerned. Shouldn’t you be?
