“Freedom of speech” assaulted once again

Perhaps it’s a generational thing or some form of “liberal entitlement” in shouting down an invited guest to speak at a university or perhaps I’m getting a bit too old and out of touch with this new form of “expression”.

However, there seems to be no limit to bad taste, and offensive behavior within the hallowed halls of higher learning, this time at the University of California, where a fringe group of “students” calling themselves the “Muslim Student Union” began to systematically disrupt a speech by the Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren.

In all, the Ambassador was intaruptued 11 times. The “shout down” was reminiscent of what took place at Columbia University when invited speaker Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minutemen, was attacked on stage by “students”.

“Freedom of Speech” is our First Amendment Right; it is the very foundation that makes America great and unique, every time a voice is silenced, interrupted or shouted down it’s an assault on our way of life.

Ironically, there was a “question and answer” segment after the Ambassador’s speech, for students to participate in; one can only imagine if these so called students behaved in the same disruptive way in a Muslim country, I suspect “heads would roll”…please excuse the pun.

That is disrespectful

If the students. asked challenging appropriate questions during the Q & A then that would be ok but yelling out random stuff is inappropriate. How would they feel if people started yelling out terrorist. That's inappropriate as well but it a taste of their own medicine. I cant believe people are still fighting that is centuries old.

Until today, in every single

Until today, in every single country in the world, Freedom of Speech is violated.
Unfortunately there are people very powerful that want to hide the true!!!! For example: Portugal is certainly a country with a substantial freedom of speech. However, there are a few cases in which this ends up not being the case - by politicians, singers, actors and most important businessmen.

I’m not familiar with what is currently going on in Portugal; however when you have a strong centralized government, “freedom of expression” can become a casualty. Our founding fathers understood that, and they purposely created a government with three equal branches, the legislative, the executive, and the judicial, a form of “checks and balances”.

However even with all of those safeguards, our freedom as a free nation is currently under attack; we are slowly losing our rights as a people, to an out of control federal government that will eventually spend us into bankruptcy.

Our founding fathers distrusted government; they understood however that in order to have a civil society, limited governance was needed. Today, under this administration, we have chaos.
